In Alapakkam Village of Kattankolathur Panchayat Union Women members have joint together and started one Magalir Malligai Mandram during April 1992. Consequent on the introduction of SGSY Scheme this Self Help Group have opened a Savings Bank Account in Indian Bank Ozhalur.
Since this Group was started as early 1992 Revolving fund of Rs. 25,000/- was sanctioned on 04.02.1999. Initially the members of the group preparing and selling varieties of snacks and they found a very good market among the customers. When they approached the DRDA for developing their Economic Activity. The DRDA made arrangements for running a canteen at SIRD, Maraimalai Nagar Campus and sanctioned a sum of Rs. 1,60,000/- under Economic Assistance with 50% Subsidy of Rs. 80,000/- on 29.12.2001 and the SHGs members have started a Canteen on 04.01.2002. This canteen is exclusively run by these Malligai Magalir Women Self Helf Group to the entire satisfaction of the Officers and the regular customers of Trainees.
Several Officials including Government of India representatives has appreciated the Self Help Groups function.
So far this self Help have repaid the loan amount to the tune of Rs. 47,700/-. The SHGs members have also earning a sum of Rs. 2000/- per month by each SHGs member besides giving employment for 6 more women workers through this canteen. Before starting this canteen the income of the the members from other sources was only Rs. 100 to Rs. 500 per month depending upon the labour work. Thus the Malligai Magalir Women Self Group have achieved a great success in catering field and benefited by the SGSY Scheme.
